About The Role

The Head of Delivery Practice is a crucial leadership role, and will be part of the TPXimpact leadership team, responsible for overseeing and advancing the Delivery Management capability across the business. Operating within a decentralised, matrixed Pod structure, this role balances operational practice leadership, strategic growth, large-scale programme governance, and hands-on client delivery. You will ensure consistent, high-quality delivery standards while maintaining the agility needed to scale the team effectively.


Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities 

  • Engagement & Programme Leadership: Define the standard for running large-scale, multi-disciplinary programmes alongside the Account Management Team. Act as the primary delivery interface with the Account Management Team to ensure engagements align with commercial account plans, actively managing project margins, scope control, and spotting upsell opportunities.
  • Delivery Methods & Quality: Act as a champion of Agile and Lean ways of working, conducting regular project health checks and assurance reviews to mitigate delivery risks early and maintain high standards.
  • Delivery Portfolio & Capability: Oversee workforce architecture and capacity management for the delivery team. This includes resourcing elements for Learning & Development (L&D), driving training initiatives to build practitioner skills, maintaining progression frameworks, and exploring opportunities to commercialise training.
  • Delivery Strategy & Growth: Actively support the achievement of TPXimpact growth targets by contributing to sales, major bids, proposition development, and managing the sales-to-delivery handover to ensure sold work is deliverable.
General Responsibilities 
 
  • Financial & Commercial Support: Actively support the Delivery Director in ensuring the practice meets its delivery P&L, gross margin, and overall utilisation targets.
  • Billable Delivery: Work across key strategic clients, remaining 50% billable and acting as a senior escalation point or Engagement Lead for complex delivery challenges.
  • Line Management & Pastoral Care: Provide line management, coaching, and talent development within the self-governed Delivery Pod structure, fostering a psychologically safe environment.
  • Talent Acquisition: Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies for Delivery Managers. You are directly responsible for helping to scale the team to align with our revenue targets and project demand.
  • Continuous Improvement: Run regular internal and external retrospectives to ensure learning is captured, shared, and incorporated into our delivery methodology.
  • Deputise: Deputise for the Delivery Director as and when required on operational and strategic matters.
  • Continuously maintain and update skills and knowledge to stay current within your relevant field of expertise.

Dimensions 

  • Budget: Shared responsibility for practice operational spend (e.g., L&D budgets, delivery diagnostic tooling).
  • Headcount: Leading the Delivery Management cohort within a wider practice scaling the team as required. .
  • Resource complexity and nature of work teams: Matrix deployment; balancing permanent, associate, and contractor pools within cross-functional pods.
  • Problem solving responsibility and complexity: High complexity; turning around off-track programmes, resolving resourcing bottlenecks, and handling senior client escalations.
  • Change management requirements: Fostering a generative, value-driven culture within a scaling, decentralised matrix model.
  • Internal/External interactions: Close collaboration with the Growth team, Account Management, and senior client stakeholders (C-suite).
  • Strategic timeframe working towards: 1-3 year horizon for capability scaling and operational efficiency

About You

Professional knowledge and experience


Essential


  • Proven experience leading Delivery Management practices and governing large-scale Agile programmes within a digital agency or consultancy.
  • Strong background in workforce planning, capacity management, and utilisation tracking.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.

Desirable


  • Experience operating within and scaling a democratised, Pod-based or matrixed delivery model.
 

Technical skills


  • Advanced skills in capacity planning software, delivery metrics tracking, and project assurance frameworks.
  • Excellent written communication and proposal drafting skills for major bids.
