About The Role

We’re looking for a Principal Data Architect to join our Data Engineering and Analytics practice. 


A Principal Data Architect is responsible for setting the vision of a project or client’s use of data through data design and data standards to ensure that data is managed properly and meet the project and client’s needs.


In this role, you will:

 
  • Oversee the design of multiple data models and have a broad understanding of how each model fulfils the needs of a project/client.
  • Be accountable for supporting and aligning to client’s data strategy
  • Champion data architecture 
  • Set standards and ways of working for data architecture
  • Provide advice to project team and oversee the management of the full data product life cycle.
  • Be responsible for ensuring the client’s systems are designed in accordance with the overall client’s data architecture.
 

Responsibilities


  • Provide your extensive capability and sector expertise through strategic direction and/or accountability for the delivery and growth of our work, demonstrating the organisation’s ways. 
  • Lead teams and/or specific strands of work and outcomes within our most complex and challenging projects, including being able to own commercial responsibilities. You hold and manage uncertainty and ambiguity on behalf of clients and our teams.
  • Take responsibility for ensuring teams and projects are inclusive through how you lead and/or manage others. 
  • Effectively own and hold the story of our work, ensuring we measure progress against client goals and our organisation missions. 
  • Work with our teams to influence and own how we deliver more value to clients, working with time and budget constraints. 
  • Demonstrably share work with wider audiences, specifically around your own area of expertise and experience, elevating ideas through how you write, speak and present. 

 

Professional Knowledge and Experience


  • Essential: Proven experience in data architecture, governance, modelling and data standards.
  • Essential: Experience presenting technical concepts and recommendations to a non-technical audience in a clear, engaging way using a variety of artefacts
  • Essentia: Successful delivery of complex projects in a fast paced environment with tight deadlines
  • Essential: Experience influencing and advising senior stakeholders and building trust with teams and clients
  • Desirable: Experience in a consultancy environment, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability to client needs.

  • Expertise in communicating between technical and non-technical 
  • Expertise in communicating data and turn complex data into clear and well understood solutions.
  • Commitment in investigating emerging trends in data-related approaches, perform horizon-scanning for the organisation and introduce innovative ways of working.
  • Strong understanding of a range of techniques for data analysis and profiling
  • Expert understanding of developing and promoting governance processes for metadata management.
 

Expertise in Data Governance

  • Ensuring data governance supports changes to the organisational strategy
  • Aligning data governance with wider governance (for example, budget)
  • Assuring corporate services by understanding important risks and providing mitigation through assurance mechanisms.
 

Expertise in Data Modelling

  • Understanding the concepts and principles of data modelling and can produce relevant data models
  • Working across the company and industry, recognising opportunities for the reuse and alignment of data models in different organisations
  • Designing the method to categorise data models within an organisation

 

Expertise in Data Standards

  • Developing and set data standards for an organisation
  • Communicating the business benefit of data standards, championing and governing them across the organisation
  • Understanding where standards need to be set across an organisation, and how to set the standards within an organisation taking into account the wider context
  • Strong experience with cloud-based data solutions and big data technologies.
