About The Role

We’re looking for a Mid-Level Service Designer to help us on our mission to design inclusive, accessible services that work for the people that use them. We believe citizens deserve access to user-centred products and services, delivered by digitally-enabled modern organisations.

Currently, we’re solving problems with a range of clients from social care services to housing and digital land planning, from improving health services to education and building capability and design maturity in central government departments.

On client projects, you’ll work in delivery and policy teams to facilitate a deep understanding of the people and communities that use services and the organisations that deliver them. You’ll work as part of multidisciplinary teams, with designers to policy specialists and developers and collaboratively with other TPXimpact teams, from org design and change to community and political engagement.

About service design at TPXimpact

No two projects are exactly the same at TPXimpact, but you’ll spend most of your time:

  • Surfacing and/or reducing complexity of experiences or problems through visual communication and storytelling
  • Facilitating conversations with different stakeholders from within an organisation to build understanding and alignment to help deliver intended outcomes and impact
  • Understanding and designing how offline and online interactions fit together to deliver organisation, service and user outcomes
  • Using data and research insights to support design decisions
  • Working closely with clients to build design maturity through supporting delivery teams and communities of practice
  • Prototyping and testing end-to-end services and individual service components
  • Contributing to the service design community of practice through sharing your knowledge and approach.

About You

Essential skills

We'll look for you to show these skills during the different phases in our recruitment. We don't expect everyone to be a 10/10 for each of these skills, we’re interested in you and your perspective.

  • You can articulate service propositions and can develop different service models based on user and organisation need.
  • You can translate ideas, from sketching through to high-fidelity designs to test assumptions and hypotheses, and bring ideas to life with stakeholders

Strategic thinking:

  • You are aware of the strategic context of your work; including organisation needs and how it relates to their organisation strategy.
  • You can map complexity within a system and organisation; the touch points, influences and dependencies

Storytelling and communication:

  • You know how or you seek support, to communicate the value of user centred design
  • You can create visual and engaging artefacts to communicate experiences, problems, opportunities and ideas, including both high level conceptual diagrams and detailed service blueprints
  • You can confidently communicate the story of our work and impact and how decisions are made

Facilitation:

  • You can frame outcomes, problems and assumptions
  • You're confident using co-design approaches to bring different people together including users and stakeholders
  • You are capable of proactive and reactive communication including facilitating difficult discussions with diverse senior stakeholders.

Capability building:

  • You can coach more junior members of the team and client teams in service design approaches
